Metalwork!

"... Verdigris; where engineering becomes art ..."

<< Blog; 9th Feb 2015 >>

This is the sort of work I like; a wide range of different metalworking techniques, a gorgeous material to work with and plenty of attention paid to the finish! These mirror polished forged bronze door handles are yet another commission I'm sending to the USA. They are a copy of these previously commissioned handles

There are four handles that will be mirror images on both sides of a double glass door. Since my customer had previously drilled the mounting holes in the glass, I machined the fixing brackets using a reamer in a lathe. This is a precision piece of engineering tooling that carefully cuts off tiny slivers of metal to give an accuracy of better than a thousandth of an inch. This much less than the thickness of a human hair. Both myself and my customer know the handles will fit when they get to Tennessee!
