This spectacular handmade bed was commissioned and designed for a customer with a passion for the Art Nouveau movement. She was particularly drawn to the
asymmetric curves, bold sweeping lines and dramatic changes in thickness
associated with artwork from that period. Traditional
blacksmithing techniques were used to create a modern and contemporary interpretation of this style.
Red hot steel was
forged on an anvil to
create the volumous and almost sculptural curves. A hand rubbed gilding wax finish enhanced the metal's worked
texture and gave the bed a lightly distressed antique
look.
