S141 Large Galvanised Steel Calla Lily Sculpture

"... stylish, elegant, and bespoke metalwork ..."

Isle of Purbeck, Dorset

This 1.2m tall dramatic galvanised steel sculpture is based on stylised calla lilies (zantedeschia aethiopica).

The flowers were hand beaten from sheet steel to create their full and voluminous sweeping curves. Each leaf is completely unique and individual and was hand forged, textured and shaped.

The design and creation of the sculpture evolved organically from detailed observation of real lilies. Each leaf was then carefully and individually positioned to obtain the desired 3D effect. As more were added, the placement of the leaves and flowers was continually fine tuned. Particular attention was given to the stems; especially how they join to the leaves and cluster together at the base to give the plant its structure. The result is a unique, exuberant and naturalistic sculpture full of life, bursting with growth and artistic expression.

The finish is freshly galvanised steel that will eventually weather to an attractive powdery grey white reminiscent of old lead.
