This bronze and stainless steel figurative sculpture was especially
commissioned as a wedding anniversary present. Rather than being cast,
the bronze was
forged to shape. Rapid and controlled hammer blows move
the metal when red hot; at this heat it behaves rather like
clay and a skilled blacksmith can sculpt it to shape.
The sculpture was given a deep
polish to enhance the natural colour of
the bronze. The polish also highlights the rich texture of the forged
metal and gives the figures a wonderfully sensuous and tactile quality. The base and
arms are stainless steel.
A complementary sculpture commissioned as an iron anniversary present is
shown on this
page.
