These stair railings, suggestive of a metal tree, were designed and made for a client with very
eclectic tastes and a strong dislike for straight lines!
The metal branches and stems were shaped with
a hammer and anvil to give them a bark like
texture, and lend the handrail a pleasing tactile quality as it undulates and sweeps along to form the newel posts at either end. The metal was
burnished and waxed to enhance the
texture of the forged metalwork. This, together with the oak timbers and exposed brickwork of the barn conversion, creates a rich palette of natural finishes within the
property.
