A creative blend of straight lines
and curves was used to make these contemporary wrought
iron stair balustrades. The curvilinear and flowing shapes were made by forging the
metal whilst hot. This gave its surface a rich texture full of character,
which is protected by a waxed finish
that highlights and enhances the texture and tones of the metal.
The flow of the curved bars, combined with the intersections of the straight
lines, and the spiraling volute of the handrail lends the balustrade
a three dimensional and sculptural quality.
The balustrades are a development of these
balustrades commissioned for
a boutique in the Piazza, Covent Garden. The owners of the work
featured here also commissioned this safety
grill for
the window at the base of the stairs.
