These spectacular, vibrant and exuberant metal stair railings were commissioned by clients with a passion for botanical and natural forms.
The brief called for railings that would add a "wow factor" to the
otherwise unprepossessing stairs leading to their attic conversion.
The railings' design was inspired by youthful and
inquisitive seedlings with emerging tendrils and leaves that appear to explore their surroundings as they
rapidly grow. The textured steel handrail sweeps and flows into the
truncated wooden stair post and is entwined by the branches and stems of the rails to form a bold and dramatic feature newel post.
Traditional blacksmithing
techniques were used to forge
the railings creating a palette of rich tones and textures that was enhanced by the
burnished and waxed finish.
