The design of these bespoke hand forged
stainless steel bowls was inspired the spectacular geology of Dorset's Jurassic Coast and its wealth of fossils.
The bowls are
forged from thick stainless
steel plate that is textured and shaped with repeated blows from hammers specially made by
David. Each and every handmade bowl, and their rich natural looking textures, are
utterly unique and individual. No two are, and can ever be, made the same.
Heat from the forge causes hard and tenacious black firescale to build up on the metal's surface.
David offers two subtly different finishes by either partially removing this scale with strong acids, or completely removing it by
electropolishing the metal.
The acid cleaned bowls are
hand polished and the remaining firescale lends the bowls a deep, complex and nuanced finish. The electropolished bowls on the other hand have a more uniform, bright and sparkly silver finish.
The edges of the bowls are satin
polished as a counterpoint to their forged texture, and to lend the metalwork a pleasing and tactile quality.
