S147 English Bluebell Garden Sculpture

"... stylish, elegant, and bespoke metalwork ..."

Chaldon Herring Dorset

This dramatic and imposing garden sculpture was made by David Hyde following close and detailed observation of English bluebells (hyacinthoides non-scripta).

The sculpture was inspired by a mature flower in full bloom drooping under the weight of its bells. Each of the bells was hand forged and is as unique as nature's own creations. The bells nearest the tip are mostly buds, or just opening, whilst the more mature bells feature generous and fully opened scrolls.

Just like a real English bluebell, all the bells are on one side of the stem, which has a naturalistic droop. However, David slightly modified the stance of the stem to more of a swan's neck curve to complement the location of the sculpture.

The sculpture is made of galvanised steel with the exception of just one bell. This is made of heat blued stainless steel and serves to draw attention to the detail on display within this work. David is currently working on a stainless steel development of this sculpture that will feature all heat blued bells as shown here.

This bluebell is fitted to a specially made below ground concrete foundation and appears to grow from out the soil. However, a much larger freestanding English bluebell can be seen on this page, and David discusses some of the methods he uses for fixing his sculptures on this blog page.
