R83: Hand Forged Wrought Iron Garden Railings

The design of these whimsical wrought iron railings was based around stylised garden plants. The calla lilies, bulrushes and other organic detailing were made by heating the metal in a blacksmith's forge and then hammering it to shape. The long elegant tapers in the flowing scrolls were made in a similar way.

Working the steel whilst hot readily lends itself to creating the flowing and graceful organic curves and other detailing featured in these railings. More information about how the leaves in these gates were made can be seen here.
