The Old
Rectory, Wimbledon |
This steel pergola was commissioned for a very special garden in the heart of Wimbledon, dating back to Tudor times.
The owner has a preference for surfaces that have been gently eroded and softened by nature and time. Hence the
irregular edges and slight unevenness of the recently installed paving.
The legs of the pergola continue this theme; they were
forged,
tapered and heavily
textured to suggest tree saplings growing out of gaps and cracks in the paving.
The pergola's arches pick up on the property's stone windows and over time the wisteria will grow over and envelop the pergola.
Other work made by Verdigris in this very special garden include
this gate and
this fig sculpture
