This pair of driveway gates was specially commissioned to
complement a large period property. Their design was a development of previously
commissioned
gates
made with flowing curves
strongly influenced by metalwork from the Art Nouveau period.
The motifs used for the contemporary Art Nouveau gates were hand
forged using traditional
blacksmithing techniques. The
metal was heated in a
forge
then shaped using skillfully placed hammer blows to give the gates a
real sense of life and character. The detailing in the gates was joined using hot
punched holes, spacers and
ball nuts, adding to the rich detailing displayed throughout the
design.
