I recently shipped two very interesting small commissions on the same day.
One was a pair of my
bronze birds that were sent to Finland to decorate a family grave, the other
was an iron
figurative sculpture that went to
Australia.
Despite being made from very different metals, and going to almost literally opposite ends of the earth, both works have something in common.
Both sculptures capture a dialogue and wordless communication between the subjects.
Small and subtle details such as the position of the beaks of the birds, or the placements of the hands of the figures, or the tilt of the heads speak so loudly.
Detail matters so much to me!
Interestingly enough, a previous customer recently returned a pair of figures ...
They were initially commissioned as a 7th (iron) wedding anniversary present but he had since had a family; the youngest of which were twins.
He asked if I could modify the sculpture by adding three smaller figures to represent his family. I did, and again the placement of the arms says so much.
